NEWSLETTER APRIL 2004

Il Bollettino di Gina
Aprile 2004

Welcome to this issue of my Bollettino. Did you know that April Fools is celebrated elsewhere? Well in Italy it is called, “Il giorno del pesce” or “the dayof the fish”.  You may ask, “what does a fool have in common with a fish?” Well, in the USA the fool succumbs to a phony story or prank. In Italy, an unsuspecting person might become a victim of someone who skillfully attaches a small picture of a fish on his/her back. If others see the fish, they play along. In other words, the fish may stay with its prey the entire day. The question is: Is it better to be a fool or fooled by a fish?

Italy Fever is rapidly overcoming 2004

Travelers are returning to Italy to discover more hidden charm and new territory. First time visitors are taking new paths realizing that the big towns can equate to crowds, lines and high prices. They are opting for a few more intimate places and selecting one big city as a goal. They know they will return. Rome was not built in a day. A tour of Italy is constructed by more than one visit. Buon viaggio!

This fall several travelers are participating in the short itinerary of Portrait of Italy. Adding either Rome or Florence to the beginning or the end of the tour is fulfilling their desire to see the well-known sites as well as engage in the small-undiscovered sites.  Does this strategy appeal to you?

Write me at Portrait and ask for more details.  This tour offers the answer to how to mix small and quaint with big and famous.  A few more spaces are available. One trips begins, in country, October 4, 2004 and the second October 30, 2004. Hope to hear from you soon.

Final deadline April 30, 2004.

Walk,

Wine &

Dine

Walk, Wine & Dine continues to call travelers who want to experience Italy in a grand way but without the grand bus.  We walk through medieval towns and fortresses and Roman ruins, stopping to savor delicious local fare and wines.  Spaces for this delicious tour are already taken for 2004. However, a few of you have already stated your interest for another tour in spring 2005.  Should this tour tempt you, request and email flyer or other information at: Walk, Wine & Dine. You are just in time to save your place for this journey.

 Language

 Immersion

After many years of searching, I have discovered a travel/study combination for those wishing to enhance their language skills and be in Italy at the same time. Many schools exist in bigger towns. As a result, the temptation to speak English is all too easy. With the help of my friends, I have made contact with a lady who has run a language school for 25 years. She is excited about hosting Americans at her school.

With the primary focus on learning and full immersion, she offers a 56-hour course over the period of three weeks. My first group leaves mid August. A second group is forming for May 2005. Interested???????

My web site lists many tours other than those represented in this Bollettino. If you would like to see a particular tour offered in 2005, let me know.  I am currently accepting reservations for 2005. In fact, this is the perfect time for your to select your time slot of preference.  Perhaps you might have a friend or two or three. Select your time frame while openings are available. Write me at: 2005 Trips

Portland, OR

Presentation

I have enjoyed exchanging emails with you over the past months. However, a face-to-face conversation is much better when planning a trip or requesting a consult.  Thus, when possible, I meet with those future participants that are in a geographical area that allows a get-together.

Currently, I am planning a gathering of those who live in the greater Portland, OR area.  The presentation is scheduled for April 17th at 2PM.   If you wish to join this group, please send me an email requesting more information.

For those of you in the NEW YORK area, I might be able to make stop your way.  Anyone interested in a Gina’s Italy presentation in and around New York, please contact me as soon as possible. Grazie…

Olive Oil

Requests for the Malvetani olive oil are multiplying. I understand that you are using this lovely product for more and more of your foods.  Here is to your health! Pomegranate, on the intrepid shopper’s list, still carries the oil.  Once we run out we can place an order for this year’s first pressing. Giovanni tells me he still has some of this preferred bottles. You know where to write: info@ginasitaly.com

A surprise announcement waits in the next Bollettino. Don’t miss it!

For continued reading pleasure, you might pick up a copy of May’s Cascade Arts & Entertainment.

You will find an article by yours truly. I take a look at the types of travelers that I have encountered over the years.  Hope you enjoy it!

Amici Grazie,

Thank you again for your attention to this month’s Bollettino. I encourage you to forward this newsletter to friends and family. For easier reading, why not print out the Bollettino and enjoy it at your convenience and not necessarily at the computer screen. This issue is packed with news. Please feel free to contact me if you are sparked by an entry. I always like to have feedback.

Until the next issue, Buona Pasqua (Happy Easter)
