Did you know
that Roman Seneca (4 BC-AD 65) is said to have read
“all the books in Rome by peering through a glass
globe of water? A thousand years later, presbyopic
monks used segments of glass spheres that could be
laid against reading material to magnify the
letters. Venetian glass blowers, who had learned how
to produce glass for reading stones, later
constructed lenses that could be held in a frame in
front of the eye instead of directly on the reading
material. The idea to frame two ground glasses
using word or horn, making them into a single unit
was born in the 13th century. Although no one knows
who really invented spectacles, it is historical as
to why so many frames come from makers like Prada,
Versace, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci etc.

Embracing Italy (May
2-15, 2007)
With this tour
we will celebrate the Italian culture and
countryside with visits to Florence, the Umbrian
countryside, outdoor markets, the Etruscan culture
and a vintner’s manor in Lazio for a spectacular
wine tasting dinner. Your memories will be
embellished by the special event we witness at a
yearly feast in a medieval town tucked high into the
mountain side.
Celebrating
Italy (May 18-30, 2007)
We will begin
in Florence and marvel at the wonders of one of the
greatest artistic cities of Europe. Moving onto a
medieval town we will celebrate their yearly
festival steeped deep in its history. Private city
guides offer those insider’s tips about their town.
With a lake in the vicinity of our next medieval
stop, we will
enjoy a boat ride to the little island where lace
makers still produce lasting art pieces.
Slice of Italy (August 31 to September 10, 2007)
Organized for
the traveler with more limited time, we can visit
Rome and its glory for the western world. Leaving
for a small town in Umbria we will make stops to
Assisi and a town known for linens. Our final days
are at a vintner’s manor from where we will take day
trips to Etruscan sites and medieval towns. Did I
mention the 5-course dinner with wines? Is a slice
really enough? Surely this trip introduces you to
the partial menu waiting for you on a return trip.
Touch
Italy (September 22 to October 3, 2007)
Begin this
adventure in the Serenissima, Venice. Take in the
private tours to the islands of Murano and Burano
along with the grandiose Ducal Palace. Moving into
Emilia Romagna we will taste the glory of several
duchies and city states of medieval Italy. After
filling our minds and eyes with the art and
philosophical schools of this northern zone we will
envelope ourselves in the explosive renaissance
jewel, Florence. This tour is a grand introductory
tour for first timers to Italy.
Experience
Italy (October 7 to October 20, 2007)
An introductory
sojourn to a land of passion and warmth, we begin in
renaissance Florence. Before moving to Rome for a
history lesson into the civilization which molded
the western world, we will stay in a medieval town
where history and art are still alive through hand
made ceramics. Experience life in a renaissance town
known for the teacher of Raphael. Little has changed
in this little city. This tour offers a first timer
many reasons to return for a second trip.
