NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2005

Il Bollettino di Gina’s Italy
Summer 2005

Italy in July offers more than hot temperatures. If your adventures take you to Italy in peak times, consider a respite from the routine with a medieval festival. Besides a change in activity, you can enrich yourself with Italy’s historical heritage. In July, Pistoia (Tuscany) hosts the “Giostra dell’orso”. This event is a horse tournament dating back to the 1300’s.  A gala parade comprised of 250 participants in full historical costume precedes the competition. Once the procession arrives in the main piazza, the games begin. ~~~Festivals, markets and food fairs all offer an insight to the culture of Italy. When possible Gina’s Italy includes such events as a bonus to tours. Discover Italy. Really Discover Italy.

Fall Trips
2005

Three groups are headed to Italy on unique pathways with Gina’s Italy, this fall.

A Grand Tour, a customized itinerary, opens with the renaissance world of Florence.  A beach town in southern Tuscany follows. At this lovely spot everyone will have the opportunity to touch the Mediterranean.  Southern Umbria, our next stop, takes us to welcoming, wonderful and mystical medieval hilltop towns.  Our Grand Tour makes its final stop in Rome and a special visit to the Sistine Chapel.

Walk, Wine & Dine returns to the scene with a twist. Beside the hidden treasures of countryside retreats, we are visiting Florence. The small villages will be the chaser to the rumble of tourists. For more visit: WW&D

Meet Italy, also a custom tour, escorts friends to their dream destinations of Venice, Verona, Florence, the countryside and Rome. For each group extensive efforts have been made to personalize the trips to the travelers.  Gina’s Italy trips are not in cookie cutter style.  Educational and instructional information is sent to all participants. Not only does Gina’s Italy offer the small group experience, the personal attention to the travelers sets Gina’s Italy apart from other tour operators. Discover Italy. Really Discover Italy.

Looking

Ahead

2006

Exciting venues await Gina’s Italy travelers in 2006! Starting in May, participants will have two choices of itineraries for Walk, Wine & Dine. Our first journey offers the possibility for 8 travelers to take an active part in the selection of the numerous towns we will be visiting. The second combination consists of a joint venture with Pomegranate Home & Garden and Dolo. Owners Jan & Robert are well known for the delightful shopping experience they offer in Bend, OR.  Our infusion trip will be centered on the art of exploration, food, wine and culture. Do you want to try your hand at homemade ravioli? Come join us for this enriching experience!

September begins with Paint the Heart of Italy. Gina’s Italy invites you to join Artist/Instructor, Cindy Briggs to tour, paint and really discover Umbria, Lazio and Southern Tuscany. This tour is not a mundane group tour. Cindy and Gina have created a unique opportunity to experience Italy with flair. This 12-day adventure begins in Italy in mid-September. All levels of artists are welcome. For more details refer to: Paint Italy.

Do you desire to speak Italian? Have you studied but feel you still can’t speak? Do you need a nudge to begin your studies? Gina’s Italy offers a three week full immersion experience in southern Umbria. Our students study in a small town where there are few English speakers. This immersion occurrence allows the partaker to learn the most elementary, intermediate or advanced skills.

Most of all, the students come away with great self confidence and stimulus to continue their language journey. The fall class begins September 30, 2006. For more information: Language (Other dates are available)

Travel
Updates

Up to now, the TSA (Transportation Security Agency) has requested checked luggage not be locked. Most travelers have felt uneasy once their luggage has gone by on the conveyor belt headed to the airplane. There is good news. A specific TSA lock is now approved for general use. One lock even comes with an indicator that alerts you your luggage has been opened. At that point, you will hope to find the notice left by the TSA agent. If you would like a TSA approved lock for your next trip, you can purchase one or two through Gina’s Italy.

Another way to feel more secure when traveling is to be protected by travel insurance. The policy covers more than medical expenses. There are allotments for baggage delay, lost baggage, travel delay and more. If you are interested in knowing more reasons for buying travel insurance write Gina a note at: info@ginasitaly.com.

Are you taking a trip to Italy soon? Will you be driving?  As of the printing of this Bollettino it is now mandatory to possess an international drivers’ license. Heavy fines can be assessed to those without.  These documents are available at your local AAA office. It takes only a few moments to insure you against an embarrassing situation.
